RTD, the innovator and world leader in fiber-reinforced composite technology for over 20 years now introduces its unique splinting material called “QUARTZ SPLINT™”

This multi-purpose product is made of a quartz fibre and can be used to splint and reinforce mobile and migrating teeth, to create a substructure for bridges to be developed in polyceramic materials or to create long term retention after orthodontic treatment. The high-strength quartz fibers used are made of proprietary presilanized fibres uniformaly impregnated in a light curable resin matrix. This is the same as used in our award-winning fiber posts.

Fibre based materials generally have a tendency to bounce back to their original shape on removal of the load after being distorted. This memory of the fiber makes it difficult to manipulate and adapt around the natural curves of the dentition. The near zero memory of the woven and the rope quartz splint is demonstrated in the following pictures. The material holds its new shape without any polymerization.
